Meet Our Physicians
Dr. Freeman was born in Montgomery, Alabama and attended The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where he graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology. He then attended The University of Alabama School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree and completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, Norfolk, VA. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Freeman has particular interest in robotics surgery. He was one of the first physicians to begin performing robotics surgery at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, as well as in the Birmingham area.
Dr. Freeman continues to enjoy the practice of obstetrics and has had the privilege of now providing obstetrical care to many girls that he has delivered since coming to Birmingham in 1986. He continues to provide total women’s care to 3 and 4 generations for many families.
After attending the University of Alabama and graduating from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. John M. Morgan attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree. Dr. Morgan completed his residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center.
Special interests include obstetrics, treatment of obesity/bariatrics, and robotic gynecological procedures. Dr. Morgan is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is also a diplomate of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians. Dr. Morgan was recently published in The American Journal of Bariatric Medicine.
In addition to having delivered thousands of babies at Brookwood, Dr. Morgan is also one of the busiest robotic surgeons at Brookwood Medical Center, one of the top five percent of robotic centers in the United States. As a pioneer in robotic surgery at Brookwood, Dr. Morgan continues to expand his skills and the operations performed.
Personal interests include art, cycling and spending time with his family.
Dr. Heidi Knedlik Straughn graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She earned a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University, Atlanta, GA. She earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and then completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Straughn is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been in private practice since 2001. Dr. Straughn has a special interest in adolescent gynecology, vaginal surgery, and incontinence procedures.
Originally from Missouri, Dr. Heather Deisher attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Dr. Deisher is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology with special clinical interest in high risk obstetrics, infectious diseases, minimally invasive surgery, rural medicine, and preventative healthcare. She enjoys developing long-term relationships with her patients and helping guide and educate them about their health concern needs in all stages of their life.
When she is not working, Dr. Deisher enjoys hiking with her dog, soccer, long-distance running, scuba diving, reading a good book, and going to the theater.
Dr. Patterson is a native of Pontotoc, Mississippi, where she attended South Pontotoc High School and graduated valedictorian. She also met her high-school sweetheart and husband of 26 years, Greg. They share two beautiful daughters, Mallie Kate (18) and Mia (12).
She then attended Mississippi State University and received the 4 year 4.0 Medallion, was an active Alumni Delegate and served as President of this organization for 2 years. She received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry. She was a member of the MSU Mathematics SEC competition team. She then began work on her Master’s of Mathematics while teaching Algebra, Calculus, and Geometry at Horn Lake High School in Mississippi.
But, God changed her path, and she decided to enter medical school and attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, where she was Student Body President of UMMC and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Society.
She then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham for her residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology, where she served as Chief Resident. After completing her residency training, she moved back home with a job in a private practice in Tupelo, Mississippi, where she practiced for 10.5 years. She and her family were then called to the Tuscaloosa area where she practiced for 4 years. Now, she is excited to be returning to the Magic City with Brookwood Women’s Health.
Dr. Allison Falkenstrom was born in Virginia but moved to Alpharetta, Georgia, at a young age. She attended the University of Georgia where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Psychology and a minor in Spanish.
Dr. Falkenstrom then earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. She stayed in Augusta to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology where she served as Chief Resident. After completing her residency training, she moved to Gainesville, Florida, where she practiced for three years while her husband completed his medical training.
Dr. Falkenstrom is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a special clinical interest in menopausal medicine and minimally invasive surgery. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, baking and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.
Madison Hulker earned her nursing degree at Samford University and her Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a Labor and Delivery nurse for four years prior to becoming a WHNP. She has practiced in women’s health since 2021. Madison is passionate about educating and empowering women through each season of life.
She is originally from Savannah, GA but now calls Birmingham home. When she is not working, Madison enjoys walks with her dog, trying new foods and traveling.
